This is the next big direction of the movie about the war events of 1812 after the film "Defense of Sevastopol". The shooting and the subsequent demonstration of the film were royally allowed; the release coincided with the 100th Anniversary of the Patriotic War.

The filming was performed by "A. Khanzhonkov & Co" Corporation (nature and battle scenes) and Pathé Brothers Company (pavilion scenes). This was the reason for having two actors playing Napoleon, which was confusing for the audience perception: in some episodes Napoleon was overweight, in another episode he was a bit slimmer and in some other episodes he looked much taller than he should be.

Main events of that military campaign were filmed in details:

  • Kutuzov meets with the peasants before the Borodino Battle.
  • The night before the Battle Napoleon shows the portrait of his son to his guards.
  • The bloody scenes of Borodino: attacks, hand-to-hand fighting, the wounding of Bagration; alternate display of Kutuzov and Napoleon; the search of wounded soldiers on the battlefield after the fray.
  • The meeting and panel session in Fili. The historic decision to leave Moscow.
  • Napoleon’s entry to Moscow; pillaging of French soldiers. The wildfire in Moscow. French soldiers shoot up the arsonists of the city.
  • Napoleon and the army leave Moscow on October 7, 1812. Cossacks and the guerrillas attack French military carts. Napoleon leaves the remnants of his army and rush to Paris».

At the end of the film the documentary footage of the War of 1812 contemporaries are shown: the unique shots of the 118-year-old man and 115-year-old woman.

In the conclusion of the review of the presented just above movie we would like to note that by showing us the living witnesses of the events than happened centuries ago the cinematography thus made it possible for us, the viewers of the XXI century, to see the contemporaries of the Great War of 1812 with our own eyes.
